In an era of rapid technological advancement, education must not be left behind. The project “Digital Education: Today is Tomorrow,” held from July 15-17, addresses numerous priorities set within the framework of the European Union Youth Dialogue. This initiative focuses on several key areas reflecting the contemporary challenges of digital society, including artificial intelligence, the digital transformation of education, and the use of online tools. This article will outline the key elements, innovative digital tools, and insights from expert panels.
Modern Digital Tools in Education
The second assembly of the “Digital Education: Tomorrow is Today” project kicked off with a panel titled “Modern Digital Tools in Education,” introducing various innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the educational landscape.
Soundproof Multimedia Capsule
One of the innovative solutions presented is the introduction of soundproof multimedia capsules in schools. These capsules are designed for students with autism or those needing a quiet space. Equipped with computers, they provide a place for focus and relaxation, potentially increasing student productivity. Ideally located in libraries, the cost of one capsule is approximately 50,000 PLN.
AI in Education
Artificial intelligence (AI) holds immense potential in education. Various applications were discussed, such as e-textbooks, online lessons, online tests, and AI as a tutor. E-textbooks can lighten students’ backpacks and are more environmentally friendly. Online lessons, modeled after TVP school during the pandemic, can standardize the level of education across Poland. Online tests offer convenience and time savings.
I in Education
AI can also support the development of soft and language skills. Trained AI models can teach technical language, assist with correct pronunciation and accent training, and prepare students for public speaking and job interviews.
Conference: Cybersecurity and Technology in Education
One of the discussion panels featured Milena Karpińska, Head of the DEP Department from the Digital Poland Project Centre, and Wiktor Baca from the Cybersecure Municipality project team. The main theme was cybersecurity and technology in education and the implementation of EU directives in Poland.
Digital Poland: Project Centre
This is part of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, supporting digital transformation, including the implementation of the European Digital Rights Charter, granting specific digital rights to all citizens. During the panel, Milena Karpińska discussed several programs:
- DEP (Digital Europe Program): This program supports a wide range of digital transformation, including large-scale computing, AI, cybersecurity, trusted digital skills, implementation of digital capabilities and interoperability, as well as semiconductors (chips act).
- Digital Decade: Goals for 2030 include ensuring basic digital competencies for 80% of the society, 20 million IT specialists, and greater female participation in this field.
- Digital Skills and Job Platform: A tool for cooperation and exchange of experiences between countries, also planned for implementation in Poland.
- Connect University: Enables participation in discussions on digital topics and listening to debates.
Cybersecurity in Education
Wiktor Baca emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in education. Key regulations, such as GDPR, and directives like NIS 2 related to cybersecurity were discussed. Personal data is the most valuable currency today, and thousands of cyberattacks on local government and administrative servers highlight the critical need to secure this data.
Visit to the Sejm and Europa Experience
Our visit to the Sejm and participation in the Europa Experience were invaluable in understanding how politics shapes education. These experiences provided us with new perspectives and inspiration for further actions, highlighting the importance of legislation and international cooperation in the digital transformation of education.
Conclusion
The “Digital Education: Today is Tomorrow” project represents a comprehensive approach to modern education, incorporating innovative digital tools, addressing cybersecurity issues, and fostering international cooperation. With the involvement of experts and the introduction of modern technologies, we can create an education system of the future that is more engaging, effective, and tailored to the needs of students.
